Chapter 1: Letting Time Slip-Slide Away

Mighty Tools Chapter 1 Assessment

Step 1 of 4

Time slip-sliding away was identified as one of seven growth killers targeting midsized firms in Robert Sher’s book, Mighty Midsized Companies: How Leaders Overcome 7 Silent Growth Killers (Bibliomotion, September 16, 2014)

Chapter 1 describes the silent growth killer and examines the problems of midsized firms that can’t seem to get projects done on time and seem to have lost their sense of urgency. While they may have been nimble and responsive organizations when small, now they seem slow and cumbersome.

This assessment is to determine if time is considered special in your organization and if progress comes with each tick of the clock.

To what extent is there a project management culture here, that encourages, values, and supports careful tracking of projects and on time/on budget completion?*
Are projects rigorously compared for importance and priorities firmly and logically established?*
When milestones are missed along the way in a project, do people quickly and strongly react to try and get things back on track?*
Are there significant consequences to the project leaders when projects aren’t completed as planned?*
Are there significant rewards for successful project completion?*
For important projects, is the progress (or lack of it) visible to peers and others? Are project updates widely shared?*
